DENVER, Colo. – New Mexico State senior
Sasha Weber earned
College Sports Madness and Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors after leading the Aggies to three-straight victories last week, including two on the road.
Â
This is the first weekly conference honor for Weber this season and the second of her career.
Â
The 6-0 guard wrapped up a busy week for the Aggies with 43 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists, three blocks and three steals. The Lacey, Wash., product was also very efficient on the floor shooting 51.9-percent and 47.-4-percent from downtown.
Â
In NM State's first road game, Weber put on a show for the Aggie fans that made the trek to San Jose, Calif., as the senior dropped 20 points on the Spartans to lead the Aggies to a 75-66 victory. She was 7-of-13 from the floor that night, with six of those seven made shots coming from three-point land.
Â
She also took over the 13th spot in the Aggies' all-time scoring record books in the first half of the game against SJSU. She now has 1,285 career points through this weekend.
Â
Weber was again NM State's offensive catalyst, reeling off a game-high 16 points against I-25 rival New Mexico in a hostile environment to give the Aggies a 52-47 victory. The win gave NM State its first season-sweep of the Lobos since the 1995-96 season. It was also the Aggies' third-straight win over UNM. The last time that happened, NM State had won 10-straight from the Lobos from 1992-96.
Â
Earlier in the week against in-state foe, Eastern New Mexico, Weber put up modest numbers and finished with seven points on 3-of-6 shooting with six boards, four assists, two blocks and a steal.
Â
In total, Weber averaged 14.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.0 blocks and 1.0 steals.
Â
NM State has a short break for the holiday season before the Aggies hit the road for the second leg of their four-game road swing. The Aggies will now head to the Big Apple for the Fordham Holiday Classic (Dec. 29-30) and will face the Southeastern Conference's Vanderbilt in their opening game.
