Subway Mascot Game A Hit

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Thursday night's annual Subway Mascot Halftime Basketball game was the highest scoring game in history and possibly the most entertaining. The Crimson team started the game with Beasley, Mitchell and Company's Max Deduction, the Chick-fil-A Cow, First Light Federal Credit Union's Dollar Dog, State Farm's Bear and the Roadrunner. The White team was led by our title sponsor Subway's Sub-Man (a crowd favorite), the Coca-Cola Polar Bear, Jack the Dog from Wells Fargo, Rocky the Dinosaur of Peter Piper Pizza and the Gorilla. It turns out the teams were not as evenly matched this year as they have been in the past.

The White team got off to a quick start with an easy layup. That easy basket was the start off an offensive onslaught that seemed to last all-night. Jack the Dog and Rocky the Dinosaur were a one-two punch that dominated from wire-to-wire. The Crimson team's defense was so non-existent that Jack the Dog even took a no-look, over the head shot, which he air balled. After Jack's wild antics, Rocky decided to shoot a three-pointer from NBA range on the fast break and surprisingly it went in. Rocky's three-pointer was the only three-pointer in the history of the Subway Mascot Halftime Basketball game.

While these two were showboating up and down the court, the biggest player on the floor finally got his first shot attempt in the history of the annual game. It took the Polar Bear over 5 years but he finally let it fly. After his first shot was 10 feet wide of the basket, he continued to heave the rock towards the hoop. The Polar Bear finished shooting horrendous 0% from the field (0/11), but he did receive a standing ovation from the crowd and was definitely the fan favorite.

Subway's Sub-Man played a critical role for his team. Sub-Man rallied the troops during their droughts on offense and picked up 7 steals and 5 assists on the night, stuffing the stat sheet.

The Crimson team was led by Beasley, Mitchell and Company's Max Deduction. He calculated his way into 2 points, 2 assists and the team's highest player efficiency rating, because it was the only one he calculated. His back court mate, First Light Federal Credit Union's Dollar Dog lived up to his hype assisting on multiple plays and giving more than just financial assistance to the team. Chick-fil-A's Cow got off to a slow start by missing his first three lay-ups but as the night went on he finished with 6 points and was dominant on the glass. His agility gave Coca-Cola's Bear trouble, because he couldn't get up and down the court due to his size.

The White team closed out the game with a 15-8 entertaining win over the Crimson team in the annual Subway Halftime Mascot Game.
