TUCSON, Ariz. – The New Mexico State Aggies opened the Spring season of 2016 with an 11th place finish at the Arizona Intercollegiate that concluded Saturday at the Sewailo Golf Course.

The Aggies posted rounds of 297, 303 and 297 to finish at 897, one stroke behind Utah at 896 in 10th in the powerful 17 team field that featured three nationally ranked teams.

No. 7 Texas won the team title with a 9-under 843, five strokes better than No. 23 Washington at 848 and nine ahead of No. 21 California at 852.

The Aggies were led by senior
Kenneth Fadke II of Hobbs, N.M. who fired an 8-over-par 221 to finish 23rd. Fadke opened play with a 1-under 70 on Friday, but turned in a 6-over 77 in the second round that started Friday, but ended Saturday after play was suspended. He closed the tournament with a 3-over 74.

Junior
Luis Medina of Guadalajara, Mexico/Montverde Academy and freshman
Davis Chung of Las Cruces, N.M./High each posted an 11-over 224, to rank in the tournament's top 40. Medina opened with a 2-under 69, the low round for the Aggies in the tournament, but followed it with a 78 and 77. Chung closed the tournament with a 1-under 70 on Saturday after opening with rounds of 78 and 76.

Sophomore
Isaac Merry of Las Cruces, N.M./Onate turned in an 80-75-76--231, while sophomore Mike McGilton of Chandler, Ariz./Perry recorded an 82-75-81--238.

Texas' Beau Hossler won the individual title with an 11-under 202, two strokes better than Washington's Frank Garber at 204 and three in front of Husky Jonathan Sanders at 205.

NM State has a couple of weeks before its next competition. The Aggies travel to Houston for the All-America Intercollegiate on Feb. 19-21.
