Final Results
LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The NM State men's golf team finished in fourth after 54 holes at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate. The squad fired a final round of 286 (+2). Three starters for the Aggies placed in the top-15 on the player leaderboard.
Freshman
Jack Snyder led the team while competing in his first collegiate event and carded a 71-70-72—213 (E) which put him in a tie for seventh place. Tadgh Campbell and
Luis Medina were close behind as they each posted a final score of 214 (+1) and tied for 13th.
The three top golfers combined for 28 birdies after 54 holes. Snyder fired 10, while Campbell and Medina each shot 9.
Isaac Merry improved through each round with scores of 77-73-71—221 (+8) and finished in a tie for 37th. Merry's tournament-best third round included NM State's only eagle of the tournament. Rounding out the Aggie starters,
Arthur Doorn shot a 75-80-73—228 (+15) which put him in a tie for 66th.
For the individuals,
Michael McGilton had a final score of 220 (+7) to tie for 33rd.
Tanvir Kahlon finished at 224 (+11) and tied for 45th.
Matt Corio was right on Kahlon's heels as his three rounds totaled to 225 (+12) which tied for 52nd place.
Davis Chung finished in an eight-way tie for 58th after shooting 227 (+14). With a personal-best 75 in round 3,
Cooper Donahue brought his total to 232 (+19) as he tied for 77th.
As a whole, NM State shot 290-284-286—860 (+8). The Aggies final score included 173 holes for par, 38 birdies and one eagle. After the final round, the team led the tournament with a stroke average of 3.15 on Par 3 holes.
For the team leaderboard, Grand Canyon paced the field and finished in first (837), while UTEP was in second (851), Wichita State in third (856), with NM State in fourth place (860) and Odessa College in fifth (861).
This was the best finish through the first three tournaments for the Aggies. Their final fall matchup takes place in El Paso, Texas at the Price's Give 'Em Five Invitational, Oct. 28-30.
