Men's Basketball and Local Law Enforcement Set to Take Lou Henson Court

The NM State men’s basketball team and members from local law enforcement agencies are set to play a friendly scrimmage on Tuesday, Nov. 1, at 5 p.m.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State men's basketball team and officers from the Las Cruces Police Department and other law enforcement agencies are set to play in a scrimmage Tuesday, Nov. 1, beginning at 5 p.m. on Lou Henson Court in the Pan American Center.

"This is a first-of-its-kind opportunity to bring our basketball student-athletes together with the men and women who serve and protect our community," head men's basketball coach Paul Weir said. "This will be a tremendous learning experience and we look forward to Tuesday."

The free event is part of the NM State Athletic Department's continuing effort to engage with and build relationships with members of the law enforcement community. Earlier this year, the Aggie football team hosted a flag football event with members of law enforcement throughout the state of New Mexico. The event also raised funds for the Officer Jose Ismael Chavez Memorial Fund after Officer Chavez was slain in the line of duty just a couple weeks prior.

"This is a great way to come together with local law enforcement to thank them for serving us as a community," said Director of Athletics Mario Moccia. "I encourage all Aggie fans to come out and support this event as they watch some competitive and fun basketball."

Members of the NM State men's basketball team will also be on hand after the friendly scrimmage to sign autographs and talk to fans about the upcoming 2016-17 season which will begin on Nov. 11 at 7:30 p.m. Season tickets for the upcoming season can be purchased by stopping by the Pan American ticket office, online at www.ticketmaster.com or by calling the ticket office at 575-646-1420.
