Fernandez Adds Colvee for 2017

NM State head women’s tennis coach Ivan Fernandez added Helena Colvee for the 2017 season.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – New Mexico State head women's tennis coach Ivan Fernandez announced the addition of Helena Colvee for 2017. Colvee, who signed her National Letter of Intent with the Aggies, hails from Dénia, Spain.

"I am very excited to have Helena sign with us," Fernandez said. "She comes from a family of tennis players and I know she will be a great addition to our program. I expect Helena to have an immediate impact in our lineup in both singles and doubles."

Tennis runs deep in the Colvee family. Her father, Salvador, competed in the Davis Cup for Venezuela from 1990-96. Her brother, Pablo, is a senior on the men's tennis team at UT-Arlington while her cousin Marina recently signed to play for the San Diego State women's tennis program.

Colvee graduated from Tercer Instituto and played as a member of the junior high competition team Club de Tennis Denia from 2007-11 and is currently a member of the Sports Club Nicante (2012-Pres.). She's currently ranked No. 30 in the provincial rankings and No. 113 in the region according to TaTenis.es in Spain.

The Aggies wrapped up their fall tournament action a few weeks back and will open dual play at home on Friday, Jan. 13, against Central Oklahoma at 2 p.m.
