LAS CRUCES, N.M. – New Mexico State guard
Brooke Salas was named the College Sports Madness Player of the Week on Monday after leading the women's basketball team to victory in both match ups last week. The sophomore averaged 16.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists to go along with 5 steals and two blocks through 59 minutes of play.
This is the second College Sports Madness Player of the Week honor of Salas' career. The Placentia, Calif. native was also recognized as the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week in week one after putting up a double-double in the season opener.
The guard earned the second double-double of the season in the first game last week against Pepperdine on Nov. 23, as she dropped 20 points and corralled 12 rebounds. The sophomore notched half of those points from the free throw line, as she shot 10-12 on the night.
During the Aggies second contest of the week on Nov. 25, the squad defeated New Mexico Highlands, 94-37. The stellar team play featured the sophomore guard putting up 13 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds and 3 steals.
The two wins brought NM State to 4-2 on the year. Salas has started in all six games and has averaged 13.2 points and 7.3 rebounds over that time.
NM State looks to continue the winning streak this week as they host two top-programs as New Mexico comes to town on Wed., Nov. 30, at 5:30 p.m. MT and Arizona arrives for a game on Sun., Dec. 4, at 1:00 p.m.
