PHOENIX – Day two action from the GCU Invitational concluded Saturday evening as Rimpledeep Kaur advanced to the championship match in singles flight No. 1 at the GCU Tennis Center.
 
Doubles action started things off again on Saturday as both Aggie pairs dropped their opening doubles match. However, the two teams regrouped and both won their second doubles match of the day.
 
Kaur's route to the championship match on Sunday was not made easy by Northern Arizona's Brandy Walker. The junior easily won her first set 6-3, but dropped a hard-fought battle in the second set 7-6 (5) before cruising to a 6-3 victory in the third and deciding set.
 
Valdez, moved on in the consolation bracket for flight No. 1 with her 6-3, 7-6 (5) victory over Southern Utah's Evgenia Marushko. She'll now play in the consolation final against Alexandra Petrzalkova of GCU on Sunday.
 
In the second singles flight, Lindsay Harlas fell in the semifinal match to Grand Canyon's Lana Rinaldi 6-4, 6-4. However, she'll be playing for third-place on Sunday against GCU's Emilia Occhipinti. Gabrielle Joyce dropped her consolation match to Laura Martin of Southern Utah in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 and is scheduled to play GCU's Kylie Waschuk on Sunday.
