LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State men's tennis team looks continue its winning ways this weekend when it travels to the Midwest for a pair of matches against Nebraska at noon on Saturday (Feb. 13) and then at 1 p.m. (MT) against No. 67 Wichita State on Sunday at the Genesis Health Club.

ONE IN THE BOOKSNew Mexico State went winless in its first four matches before recording its first win of the season against Weber State at the Fertitta Tennis Complex in Las Vegas, Nev., last week. The win came after NM State lost the doubles point and went down 3-0 in singles play. One-by-one the Aggies rallied behind one another to reel off four-straight and claim the come from behind victory.

After last weekend, NM State now has five players with double-digit wins in singles play. Freshman
Enrique Asmar tops the list with a 13-6 mark while
Christofer Goncalves checks in at 12-5.
Liam Goldberg (10-5),
Strahinja Trecakov (10-8) and
Stijn de Haan (10-8) rounds out the list of double-digit winners.

LAST TIME OUTAfter opening its second week of dual play with a 6-1 loss to UNLV, NM State had a back-and-forth battle with UC Riverside. However, a tiebreaker loss in doubles put the Aggies in the hole early and saw them fall to the Highlanders 4-3. The next day NM State rallied back from being down 3-0 to defeat Weber State, 4-3, for its first win of the dual season.

Enrique Asmar extended his win-streak in singles play to three with victories all three days in Las Vegas, all of which came at the No. 6 singles slot.
Mauri Benitez picked up his second win of dual play when he forced a third set to clinch the win for NM State over the Wildcats.

Sophomore
Christofer Goncalves claimed a pair of victories last week at the No. 2 slot while teaming up with teammate
Strahinja Trecakov to earn a pair of wins at doubles No. 1 as well. Trecakov picked up the first dual victory of his senior year against Julian Ruffin of UCR with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 1 singles.

SCOUTING THE HUSKERSHeading into Saturday's match, Nebraska sports a 3-2 record in dual play. The Huskers opened the dual season with five-straight home matches, winning its first two before dropping its next two and then finished with a win over Western Athletic Conference foe, UMKC.

All three wins for Nebraska came against unranked opponents while both losses came at the hands of then-No. 52 Denver (5-2) and No. 46 Oregon (6-1). The Huskers' other wins came against Omaha (6-1) and North Dakota (7-0) in their dual opener.

Nebraska has six letterwinners returning for them and replaced their seniors with four new freshmen.

STATE OF SHOCKThe Aggies will wrap up their two-day trip to the Midwest with No. 67 Wichita State on Sunday at 1 p.m. (MT) on Valentine's Day. The Shockers are 5-4 early on in the dual season and 3-0 when playing at home. Wichita State was riding a three-match losing streak before it took down Air Force (4-0) this past Saturday.

The Shockers are 1-3 this season when playing against ranked opponents. Their lone victory came against then-No. 51 South Carolina at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Columbus, Ohio.

WSU is led by Tin Ostojic, who is ranked No. 95 in singles according to the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, with a 6-2 mark in dual play at No. 1 singles. The senior has won five-straight matches heading into this weekend. Teammate Miroslav Herzen checks in at No. 121 in the singles rankings with a 3-3 mark in dual action and 5-7 record overall.

In doubles play, the duo of Herzen and Haru Inoue are ranked No. 22 in the nation and lead the Shockers with a 13-4 overall record and 5-2 mark in dual play at the No. 2 position. Jocelyn Devilliers and Ostojic are second on the team with a 6-2 record in doubles and 5-1 mark in dual play at the No. 1 slot.
