LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The NM State softball team kicks off the 2016 season this weekend as they host the NM State Invitational with Incarnate Word and UTEP Friday-Sunday. The Aggies square off against Incarnate Word in a double header on Friday with first pitch at 4:00 p.m.
 
NM State is coming off a 47-16 season. The Aggies had a program-best 14-1 record to become WAC regular season champions before the team captured the WAC Tournament title to earn a spot in NCAA Regionals. Head coach Kathy Rodolph was named WAC Coach of the Year and Staci Rodriguez was selected as the WAC Player of the Year.
 
The Aggies and Cardinals will face for the fourth time in program history. NM State holds a 3-0 advantage after winning all three games against Incarnate Word in the UTEP Invitational in 2014.
 
NM State will also host Battle of I-10 rival UTEP in two games this weekend, with the first occurring on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. The Aggies hold a 25-10 series lead over the Miners after they won all three games last season.
