NM State Drops Two to No. 15 Missouri

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Fiana Finau had four hits on the day as the NM State softball team fell 9-6 and 14-3 in games one and two, respectively, of their double header with No. 15 Missouri on Saturday at the NM State Softball Complex.
 
Game One
 
The Aggies (20-15) scored six runs and collected six RBIs on nine hits in game one. Finau went 3-for-4, scored one run and had one RBI. Karysta Donisthorpe pitched 1.2 and had two strikeouts in 12 batters faced.
 
Missouri (19-4) scored nine runs and had eight RBIs on 10 hits. Paige Lowary pitched 3.0 innings and allowed three hits in 12 batters faced.
 
Missouri took the lead in the top of the first inning as Sami Fagan hit a solo home run over right field. The Tigers then scored five runs in the second inning. In the top of the third inning, Emily Crane hit a solo home run over right field to give Missouri a 7-0 lead.
 
After holding the Tigers scoreless in the top of the fourth inning, the Aggies scored five runs in the bottom of the inning to cut into the Missouri lead. Emma Adams began the inning with a single to straightaway center. Adams advanced to second as Kelsey Horton singled to right field. Finau hit a single up the middle and advanced to second on the throw as Adams scored.
 
Finau advanced to third and Horton scored as Brennalyn Nakamura grounded out. Castro's single to right field scored Finau before Tatum Reedy hit a two-RBI home run to cut Missouri's lead to 7-5 after four innings.
 
The Aggies added another run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Horton was walked and advanced to third as Finau hit a single to right field. B. Nakamura then hit a single to second base to score Horton to leave the Tigers clinging to a 7-6 advantage.
 
The Tigers scored again in the top of the sixth inning. Taylor Gadbois was walked and then used two stolen bases to advance to third. Fagan was walked and stole second. Gadbois scored as Chloe Rathburn hit a single to the pitcher and Fagan scored as Emily Crane singled to straightaway center field as Missouri captured a 9-6 victory in game one.  
 
Game Two
 
The Aggies scored three runs and garnered three RBIs on seven hits in game two. Adams went 2-for-3 and had one RBI. Makayla McAdams pitched 5.0 innings and had one strikeout in 29 batters faced.
 
The Tigers scored 14 runs and had 12 RBIs on 14 hits. Paige Lowary pitched 6.0 innings and had five strikeouts in 27 batters faced.
 
The Tigers took the advantage in the top of the first inning. Gadbois reached on an Aggie error, stole second and scored as Fagan singled to left center. In the top of the third inning, Natalie Fleming hit a solo home run over straightaway center. Missouri then scored four runs in the top of the fourth to take a 6-0 lead.
 
The Aggies scored in the bottom of the fourth inning. Finau reached first base and advanced to second base on an error by the left fielder. Finau advanced to third as Reedy grounded out and then scored as Corrin Green hit a single up the middle to cut Missouri's lead to 6-1.
 
After a scoreless fifth inning, Missouri scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning.  Fleming hit a home run over straightaway center. Crane then hit a single and advanced home on an Aggie error to give the Tigers an 8-1 advantage.
 
NM State scored another run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Finau hit a double to straightaway center field and advanced to third base on a wild pitch. Adams hit a single to first base to score Finau as the Aggies cut Missouri's advantage to 8-2.
 
The Tigers scored six more runs in the top of the seventh inning and the Aggies scored a run in the bottom of the inning. Rodriguez hit a single to the shortstop and advanced to second as Bergeson singled to left field. Bergeson advanced to second and Finau reached first base on a fielder's choice as Rodriguez was thrown out at third. Bergeson then scored as Reedy hit a double to straightaway center for the final score of the game.
 
The Aggies take the field again tomorrow as they face Missouri at 2:00 p.m. in the series finale at the NM State Softball Complex. The game will be broadcast by AggieVision and will air live on FOX-Arizona, FCS-Pacific, Altitude, ESPN3 and the WAC Digital Network.
