Box Score LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The NM State softball team fell 5-1 to No. 15 Missouri in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at the NM State Softball Complex.
The Aggies (20-16) scored one run and had one RBI on seven hits.
Amy Bergeson went 2-for-3, while
Emma Adams had one RBI on the day.
Karysta Donisthorpe pitched 3.2 innings and had one strikeout in 20 batters faced. NM State left the bases loaded in three separate innings and had 13 runners left on base overall.
Missouri (20-4) scored five runs and had five RBIs on nine hits. Paige Lowary pitched 5.2 innings and allowed five hits in 27 batters faced. Missouri left the bases loaded once and left 10 runners stranded overall.
In the top of the first inning, both teams put runners in scoring position. Taylor Gadbois hit a single up the middle and stole second for the Tigers, but she was left stranded.
Rachel Rodriguez hit her fourth triple of the season to lead off for the Aggies, but she was left on base as the game remained scoreless.
Missouri took the lead in the top of the second inning. Amanda Sanchez hit a single to left field and Sydney Sprague entered as a pinch runner. Natalie Fleming was walked to put runners at first and second. After a fly out advanced the runners to second and third, Sprague scored as Regan Nash hit a single to third base to give the Tigers a 1-0 advantage.
The Aggies put three runners on base in the bottom of the second inning.
Corrin Green was walked and Bergeson singled to left field.
Jasmine Stokes entered as a pinch runner for Green before
Tatum Reedy was walked to load the bases. The runners were left stranded as Missouri clung to a 1-0 lead.
The Tigers scored two runs in the top of the third inning. Sami Fagan was walked before Chloe Rathburn hit a two-RBI home run over left field. In the top of the fourth inning, Emily Crane hit a solo home run over right field to give Missouri a 4-0 advantage.
NM State scored one run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Lucy Mendoza hit a single to third base and advanced to second as Rodriguez singled to first base. Adams hit a single to straightaway center and advanced to second on an error by the center fielder, while Mendoza scored on the play to cut Missouri's lead to 4-1.
Missouri added one more run in the top of the seventh inning. Missouri used an error, a single to the pitcher and a walk to load the bases. Sanchez then scored as Walters hit a single to straightaway center, but Castro minimized the damage with a throw from center field to home plate for the final out of the inning.
The Aggies take the field again on Apr. 1 at 6:00 p.m. MT as they host Seattle U in the conference-opener.
