SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The New Mexico State Aggies struggled in the final round of the UTSA/Lone Star Invitational on Tuesday at the Briggs Ranch Golf Course.

The Aggies posted a final round 319 to finish 16th in the field, eight strokes in front of Houston Baptist at 940 and two strokes away from Texas State in 14th at 930.

Freshman
Davis Chung of Las Cruces, N.M./High and sophomore Mike McGilton from Chandler, Ariz./Perry, carded the low rounds of the day with 4-over-par 76s on the par 72, 7,247 yard Briggs Ranch course.

McGilton finished with a 232, while Chung posted a 233 for the 54-holes.

Aggie senior
Kenneth Fadke II from Hobbs, N.M., suffered the most in the final round, recording a 10-over 82 to drop out of the top 10 into a tie for 34th overall at 12-over 228.

Sophomore
Isaac Merry of Las Cruces, N.M./Onate produced team scoring 85 in the final round for a 250 final, while junior
Luis Medina of Guadalajara, Mexico/Montverde Academy put up an 88 to finish at 244.

Senior
Joey Martinez of Oro Valley, Ariz./Ironwood Ridge, who was playing as an individual and could not count in the team score, collected an 84 to finish at 251.

New Mexico won the team event with a 298 in the final round to finish at 877, six strokes better than Rice at 883 in second. North Texas posted a 295 to place third at 890.

Ohio State's Tee-k Kelly went wire-to-wire for the individual win, adding a 1-under 71 in the final round for a 5-under 211. Rice's Mario Carmona fired a 3-under 69 to place second at even-par 216. UTSA's Brett Hogan was third at 1-over 217.

NM State has the next weekend off before playing visiting Bryan, Texas to play in Texas A&M's Aggie Intercollegiate on April 2-3. It's the final tournament for NM State before the WAC Championship at the end of April.
