Baker declares for 2016 NBA Draft

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – New Mexico State junior Ian Baker announced Monday that he has declared for the NBA Draft.
 
Baker, the 6-0, 180 pound point guard for the Aggies from Washington, D.C., said that he wanted to make the declaration to evaluate his professional opportunities. In accord with NCAA Proposal No. 2015-32 that was adopted in January 2016, Baker does not plan hire an agent so that he can maintain his NCAA eligibility.
 
Baker was named first team All-Western Athletic Conference in 2016 after averaging 13.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.1 steals per game. He was also named to the WAC All-Defensive Team and the All-WAC Tournament Team.
 
Baker ranked 10th in the conference in scoring, seventh in assists and eighth in steals. He led the Aggies and ranked fourth in the WAC with an 81.7 free throw percentage, hitting 89-of-107 shots from the stripe. He also led the Aggies at the 3-point arc, connecting on 69-of-180 long range shots for a 38.3 percentage to rank fourth in the WAC.
 
Baker has 860 career points at NM State, and ranks seventh on the Aggies career 3-point field goal charts (3-point field goals, 3-point attempts, 3-point percentage), hitting 137-of-337 for a 40.7 percentage. He's also tied for 15th on the NM State list with 241 career assists.
