BRYAN, Texas – The New Mexico State Aggies were one hole from completing both rounds of the opening day of the 2016 Texas A&M Aggie Invitational at The Traditions Club when darkness called a halt to the day.
And it was a day that that the NM State linksters would like to put behind them.
The Aggies are 15th in the 15 team field, after posting a 324 in the first round and had not changed position when darkness called the second round. While the Aggies have only one hole to play, five other teams have between one and four holes to complete.
NM State competed Saturday with four players when sophomore Mike McGilton withdrew from the first two rounds, eliminating a drop score.
Junior
Luis Medina of Guadalajara, Mexico/Montverde Academy, led the Aggies through the first day on the par 72, 7,146 yard Traditions course. He started with a 9-over 81 in the first round, but answered with an even-par 72 in the second to sit at 153.
Sophomore
Isaac Merry of Las Cruces, N.M./Onate, carded a 7-over 79 with a 5-over 77 for a 156, while freshman
Davis Chung of Las Cruces, N.M./High chalked up consecutive rounds of 81 for a 162 total.
Aggie senior
Kenneth Fadke II from Hobbs, N.M., opened with an 83 in the first round, and was at 7-over through 17 holes when play was halted.
The tournament is led by No. 8 Oklahoma State who shot 283 in the first round and was still in the lead with two golfers on the course and four holes to report. North Texas is in the clubhouse in second with a 291-289--580, with LSU third with a 297-298--585.
The top individuals have completed play on Saturday, with Ian Snyman of North Texas leading the way at 7-under 137 after rounds of 2-under 70 and 5-under 67. OSU's Kristoffer Ventura is second at 3-under 141, with Baylor's Braden Bailey at 2-under 142 in third.
The second round will resume at 6 a.m. Mountain time on Sunday, with third round tee times set to start at 7 a.m. With most of the field completed, tee times were assigned based on the positions when darkness halted the nearly completed second round.
