BRYAN, Texas – The New Mexico State Aggies could not overcome Saturday's bad start, remaining 15th Sunday to finish the 2016 Texas A&M Aggie Invitational at The Traditions Club.
Once again playing with just four members, the Aggies posted a 310 in the final round to finish the three-rounds at 943.
NM State was led on Sunday by sophomore
Isaac Merry of Las Cruces, N.M./Onate, who fired a 1-over-par 73 on the par 72, 7,146 yard Traditions course. Merry played a steady round, scattering three bogeys with a pair of birdies in the final round. He led the Aggies in the tournament with a final of 229.
Aggie senior
Kenneth Fadke II from Hobbs, N.M., bounced back from Saturday's play by matching Merry with a 1-over 73, finishing with a 235.
Junior
Luis Medina of Guadalajara, Mexico/Montverde Academy, struggled in the final round with an 80 to finish at 233. Freshman
Davis Chung of Las Cruces, N.M./High collected a final round 84 to end the tournament with a 246.
NM State did not have the play of sophomore Mike McGilton for Sunday. The Aggies number two player on the lineup card became ill on the trip and could not play in any of the three rounds.
No. 8 Oklahoma State won the tournament with a final round 289 to finish at even-par 864. The Cowboys held on as No. 17 LSU posted a 7-under 281 in the final round to finish second, two strokes back at 866. No. 24 Arkansas climbed into third at 875.
Individually, Arkansas' Alvaro Ortiz and OSU's Kristoffer Ventura tied at 4-under 212 and were declared co-medalists. Ortiz shot a 3-under 69 in the final round, with Ventura scoring a 1-under 71. Kent State's Chase Johnson was third at 3-under 213 after a 69 on Sunday.
NM State is off for the rest of the month as they focus on the defense of their three-straight Western Athletic Conference titles. The WAC Championship is April 30 through May 2 at the Loomis Trail Golf Club in Blaine, Wash.
