DENVER – The NM State softball team is the No. 1 seed for the Western Athletic Conference Tournament after clinching the regular season title with wins over UMKC Friday and Saturday, announced the league office. With this seed, the Aggies will have a first-round bye in the tournament and will face the winner of Seattle U vs. Utah Valley on May 12 at 4:30 p.m. MT in Seattle, Wash.
The Aggies (34-19, 14-1 WAC) needed to win two out of three games against UMKC to secure the title. After winning game one 5-4 on Friday and collecting a 7-2 victory in game two on Saturday, NM State completed the series sweep with an 11-8 victory. This is the second year in a row the Aggies have won the WAC regular season title.
The winner of the NM State vs. Seattle U/Utah Valley game will face the winner of UMKC vs. CSU Bakersfield on Friday at 2:00 p.m. The tournament is double-elimination, and the winner will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals May 20-22.
