Lewis Promoted to Director of Basketball Operations

Head women’s basketball coach Mark Trakh announced the promotion of Earl Lewis to director of basketball operations on Tuesday.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Earl Lewis was named director of basketball operations on Tuesday as announced by NM State head women's coach Mark Trakh. Lewis was elevated after serving as the team's graduate assistant last season.
 
"Earl has worked with our student-athletes as a grad assistant this past season and did a great job," Trakh said. "Our athletes like and respect him and are looking forward to working with Earl as our Director of Basketball Operations."
 
Lewis will begin his second season with the Aggies this upcoming season as he takes over arranging community service events, schedule of team activities and film exchange among other things. On top of his day-to-day duties, he'll also handle all team travel items.
 
Lewis played basketball at Briar Cliff, an NAIA school in Sioux City, Iowa, from 2001-03 after transferring from Oklahoma Pan Handle State and College of the Desert in California.
 
The Inglewood, Calif., product was third on his team in scoring with 11.4 points average his senior year to go with 6.3 boards per game as a small forward. He also led his team in scoring four separate times, and led his team on the glass in 13-of-27 games. For his efforts, Lewis earned All-Great Plains Athletic Conference honorable mention.
 
After his playing career, Lewis headed back home to coach at his high school alma mater – Junipero Serra High School in Gardena, Calif. From 2004-11, Lewis served as the head junior varsity coach as well as an assistant on the varsity team. While at SHS, Lewis helped guide the Cavaliers to one state championship, two California Interscholastic Federation Championships and four league championships.
 
Lewis graduated from Briar Cliff with a degree in communications in 2003 and will be pursuing his master's degree here at New Mexico State with a focus on curriculum and instruction.
