Aggie Golfers Conclude Run in Rio

Alena Sharp(CAN) paced the trio of Aggies in Rio for the Olympics, tying for 30th while Gwladys Nocera (FRA) tied for 39th and Ursula Wikström (FIN) tied for 44th.

RIO DE JANEIRO – After four competitive days of golf, Alena Sharp led the pack of three New Mexico State alumnae that competed in the 2016 Rio Olympics on Saturday. Sharp (CAN) tied for 30th while Gwladys Nocera (FRA) finished in a tie for 39th and Ursula Wikstrom tied for 44th.

Sharp, who is playing the best golf of her career entering these Olympics, finished with a 1-over 285 card on the par-71, 6,245 yards Olympic Course. The LPGA veteran had solid rounds on days two and four, but her 72 and 75 cards in rounds one and three set the Canadian back.

Nocera finished ahead of her French teammate, Karine Icher, with a 6-over 290 card. She was never able to get in rhythm and had her best round in the Olympics in the second round where she shot even par.

Wikström played well the first two days of competition in Rio until day three. The Finnish golfer struggled on the course in the third round, shooting 10-over 81 before finishing the Olympics with a 10-over 294 card.

All three will now get a chance to cheer on their respective nations in the handful of sports remaining as the 31st running of the Olympiads comes to a close on Sunday, Aug. 21.
