DENVER – After an impressive weekend at the Brown Invitational, junior
Jordan Abalos has been named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 12-18, the conference announced on Monday. This is her first-ever WAC Player of the Week honor.

A native of Safford, Ariz., Abalos led NM State to the Brown Invitational title with a sterling 3-0 record and was named tournament MVP for her performance. For the weekend, she averaged 5.60 kills on .431 hitting, 3.80 digs and 0.40 service aces per set. In a sweep against Central Connecticut State on Friday, Abalos racked up a career-high 22 kills on a .462 hitting percentage with 13 digs. In the 3-1 victory over Binghamton, she put up 21 kills, 17 digs and two service aces for back-to-back double-doubles. In the tournament finale against host Brown, Abalos logged 13 kills and eight digs on a .500 hitting percentage in a sweep of the Bears that took just over an hour.

Abalos is currently atop several categories in the WAC. She leads the WAC in service aces per set (0.36), second in double-doubles (nine), third in kills per set (3.66) and points per set (4.15), and sixth in both hitting percentage (.269) and digs per set (3.43).

The Aggies are back in action on Thursday as they open conference play at home against Seattle U at 7 p.m. in the Pan American Center.
