TUCSON, Ariz. – Day one of the Wildcat Invitational was not as friendly to the New Mexico State women's tennis team with
Vanessa Valdez and
Lindsay Harlas the only two to advance on Friday at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.
Â
The Aggies took a split in doubles action with Valdez and Harlas taking down the mixed doubles team of UTSA's Sonia Medina and Arizona's Elena Schneider 6-3.
Rebecca Keijzerwaard and
Gabrielle Joyce fell to UTSA's crew in the red flight 6-2.
Â
The Roadrunners go the best of NM State in singles play, taking four matches – two in each flight. However, the Aggies battled in each match and took their opponents to breakpoint in the second set. A point in Keijzerwaard's way could've swung things her in both sets against UTEP's Raven Bennett as she fell 7-5, 7-5.
Â
Doubles play will once again kick off the day at 9 a.m. (MT) leading into singles play as the Aggies look to bounce back in the consolation bracket.
