LAS CRUCES, N.M. – New Mexico State head women's tennis coach
Ivan Fernandez announced the addition of
Elizabeth Geronimo Thursday afternoon. Geronimo will be eligible to compete immediately with the 2017 spring season beginning this Saturday, Jan. 14, at noon against Central Oklahoma in the NM State Tennis Center.

"I am very excited to get a transfer with Division I experience at semester," Fernandez said. "Elizabeth will add a great dimension to our depth and I expect her to be in the lineup immediately."

After redshirting the 2014-15 season at Savannah State, Geronimo saw action in the 2015-16 campaign. As a redshirt freshman, Geronimo picked up four wins during the dual season – all at the No. 2 singles position. She also played at the No. 1 doubles position for the Lady Tigers.

The Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, native graduated from Blessed Hope Academy and trained at the John Newcombe Tennis Ranch Academy.

In the junior circuit, she advanced to the round of 16 before falling in the consolation championship match in the ATA Spring Open and TennisRecruiting.net Tournament. The 5-10 transfer also played in the championship match at the Southlake Jr. Open in 2014.

Geronimo also picked up a pair of wins on the junior circuit in the DR at the Copa Mangu Tournament and Copa Merengue Tournament in 2011. She made it to the quarterfinals in both tournaments before bowing out.

Her father, César Gerónimo, was the starting centerfielder for the 1975-76 World Champions Big Red Machine Cincinnati Reds and a four-time Gold Glove recipient (1974-77). He's also a member of the Reds' Hall of Fame. Geronimo has two older brothers, Cesar Francisco, and Cesar Alejandro, and an older sister, Gisselle. Her brother Cesar Francisco, played baseball for Eckard College and moved up to triple-A baseball.
