Brooke Salas Earns Multiple Player of the Week Honors

New Mexico State guard Brooke Salas was named the College Sports Madness and Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Monday

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – New Mexico State women's basketball guard, Brooke Salas, was named the College Sports Madness National Mid-Major and Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Monday after leading the women's basketball team to a pair of wins over conference opponents, Seattle U and Utah Valley. The sophomore averaged a double-double on the week with 25.0 points and 10.5 rebounds over 72 minutes of play.

Brooke Salas had the best week of her career at NM State as she put up the two highest scoring games as an Aggie in two wins over Seattle U and Utah Valley, which wrapped up the team's first half of their conference schedule and put the team on an eight game win streak.

Salas set a career high in points in a contest which took down the only other undefeated team in WAC play, in a 73-69 overtime win over Seattle U, as the guard put up a double-double with 26 points and 12 rebounds.

The next game on Saturday afternoon saw the sophomore guard put up another strong night with 24 points and nine rebounds, in a showdown which saw Salas put up 14 points in the third quarter and alter the course of the game in which the team defeated the Wolverines, 63-46.

The Placentia, Calif. native has now been named the WAC Player of the Week a conference leading three times this season (Nov. 14, Jan. 9). This is also the second time this season Salas has earned College Sports Madness honors and the fourth time for an Aggie player as Tamera William, Gia Pack and Moriah Mack have also earned conference player of the week, earlier this season.

After the week, New Mexico State women's basketball moved to 15-6 on the year and 7-0 in WAC play. Salas has started in all 21 games for the Aggies and has averaged a team-leading 14.0 points and 5.9 rebounds, as well as 17.7 points and 6.4 rebounds in WAC play.

NM State's next contest will pit the team against the Chicago State Cougars, on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 1 p.m. MT. This will be the second time this season the Aggies have squared off with the Cougars, as they defeated CSU 100-63 back on Jan. 7.
