BOULDER, Colo. – The New Mexico State women's tennis team completed its first weekend of competition together with first-year head coach
Emily Wang on Sunday at the CU Invite.
Â
Sunday's final day of action was some encouragement for NM State on the doubles front with
Rebecca Keijzerwaard and
Vanessa Valdez besting Colorado's Anabelle Andrinopoulos and Linda Huang in a nail biter 7-6 (3).
Â
With the doubles team being shuffled around,
Lindsay Harlas and
Yadira Rubio's 6-4 loss to UNM's veteran top doubles pair was a good sign. Newcomers
Quinty Janssen and
Helena Colvee dropped their match 6-3 in the second-to-last round of doubles play.
Â
In their second doubles contest, Keijzerwaard and Valdez at one point were tied with Oklahoma's Malene Stripp and Camila Romero 4-4 before the Sooners handed the Aggies a 6-4 loss. Harlas and Rubio dropped their second match 6-3 as well while Janssen and
Eli Arnaudova paired up for the first time this season in a 6-2 loss.
Â
The women's tennis team will get this week off to rest and train before taking off to Salt Lake City, Utah, for the ITA Regional Championships hosted by the University of Utah (Oct. 10-15).
