LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State men's golf team completed the first day of competition at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate on Monday. Through 36 holes, the Aggies shot a 561 (-7) which puts the team in first with one round remaining.
Team play on day one saw four Aggie finish in the top-15. This was led by
Michael McGilton who fired a five-under, 137, to sit in second after two rounds of competition.
Tadhg Campbell was right behind with a 67-72—139 (-3) to tie for third.
Jack Snyder and
Isaac Merry each shot a 143 (+1) to tie for 13
th.
Taylor Stote rounded out the Aggie starters with a 73-76—149 (+7) to tie for 40
th.
For the individuals,
Davis Chung posted a 144 (+2) to tie for 16
th. At six-over, 148,
Ryo Harada tied for 33
rd and was followed one shot behind by
Tyler Svendson at 149 (+7) who tied for 40
th.
Tanvir Kahlon fired a 78-72-150 (+8) to tie for 49
th.
Freshman
Thomas Tulk shot a 73-78—151 (+9) which put the Aggie in a tie for 55
th.
Arthur Doorn posted a 78-74—152 (+10) to tie for 60
th and
Cooper Donahue completed the individuals with totals of 84-71-155 (+13) to place in 72
nd.
NM State sits atop the team leaderboard after two rounds with a 561(-7), followed by Grand Canyon at 562 (-6) and UTEP in third with a team score of 574 (+6).
The final round of play at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate begins with a shotgun start on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at 8:30 a.m. MT. Live scoring for the tournament can be followed on
