PROVO, Utah – New Mexico State men's tennis senior Christofer Goncalves saw his run at the ITA Mountain Regional come to an end Friday afternoon at the BYU Outdoor Tennis Courts in the semifinals of singles play.
 
Goncalves had a great start to single play, sending New Mexico's Dominic West home with a dominant 6-2, 6-2 victory in the quarterfinal round – which set him up with a match against BYU's Sean Hill later that afternoon.
 
A gritty back-and-forth first set saw the Barquisimeto, Venezuela, fall 7-6 (8-6) in the semifinal match. However, Goncalves roared back in the second set with a decisive 6-1 win and forced a third set. After the match got tied up at 4-4, Hill took a quick 5-4 lead before claiming a spot in the championship match over Goncalves with a 6-4 victory.
 
Earlier in the morning, Goncalves and Luis Flores saw their run in the doubles bracket come to an end when they fell to BYU's duo of Jeffrey Hsu and Sean Hill 8-5 in the round of 32.

The ITA Mountain Regional concludes the fall slate for New Mexico State as it now takes some much needed rest and prepare for the dual season in the spring.
