@NMStateMTEN Sweeps WAC Awards

The NM State men’s tennis team swept the monthly WAC awards on Wednesday.

DENVER – The New Mexico State men's tennis team swept the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Month honors on Wednesday the league announced. Senior Christofer Goncalves, the reigning WAC Player of the Year, took home the singles honor while he and doubles partner Luis Flores took home the doubles award.

Goncalves started off his season being named co-champion at the Aggie Invitational at home with teammate Stijn de Haan. The Barquisimeto, Venezuela, product then went on to compete in the ITA Masters event in Malibu, Calif., where he picked up a pair of wins in the consolation bracket before. The senior capped off his month of September with four wins at the Lobo Invitational before finishing the month 9-2 in singles.

In doubles action, Goncalves and Flores didn't miss a beat from last season's First-Team All-WAC caliber performance. The duo started the year off with a 4-0 mark at the Aggie Invitational before going 3-1 together at the Lobo Invitational. Their 7-1 mark was only blemished against New Mexico's pair playing on their home court.

NM State is on a couple weeks rest before it wraps up fall play Oct. 18-22 when it travels to Provo, Utah, for the ITA Regional Championships.
