MOSCOW, Idaho – The New Mexico State women's swimming and diving came up shy of the victory as it fell to Idaho, 181.5-118.5, on Friday evening at the UI Swim Center.
"It was a long trip to get beat like that," head coach
Rick Pratt said. "Our team learned some valuable lessons in the process. Idaho was ready to go and we were a little flat. Our divers rebounded well on 1m and Hauff had a strong day qualifying for zones on both boards. We've had a couple of months of heavy training, which is going to pay off in the long run. For now, we've got to recovery and get fresh for NAU in our two-day home meet."
In the three-meter diving, Idaho's Maren Seljevold came in first with a score of 321.95. NM State's Makinna Hauff finished second with a score of 312.20, while Janelle Lucas placed third with a score of 301.80 for Idaho.
Allie Magrino clocked a time of 1:45.96 for the Vandals to finish first in the 200-yard medley relay, while
Eliana Beaudry posted a time of 1:47.34 for a second-place finish for the Aggies. Dhani Freeland finished third with a time of 1:48.24.
In the 1000-yard freestyle, Sarah Hall (10:39.90) and Brianna Lucien (10:43.62) finished first and second, respectively. NM State's
Katherine Harston recorded a time of 10:51.00 to finish in third place.
In the 200-yard freestyle event, Emma Schlyter finished in first place with a time of 1:53.49, followed by Leah Fisk with a time of 1:54.58.
Picabo Bender came in third for the Aggies, clocking a final time of 1:55.69.
In the 100-yard backstroke, Allie Magrino clocked a time of 58.11 to finish first. NM State's Beaudry recorded a time of 58.33 to finish in second-place, while teammate
Alix Knagg came in third with a final time of 58.81.
Cara Jernigan recorded a time of 1:05.05 to finish in first-place in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Hanna McGowan placed second for the Aggies with a recorded time of 1:05.67 and Aimee Iwamoto placed third with a time of 1:05.92.
For the 200-yard butterfly event, NM State's
Lanie McAlpin took the top spot with a time of 2:08.31, while teammate
Reagan Nentwich clocked a time of 2:09.09 to finish third. Idaho's Alexis Schmidt placed second with a time of 2:08.70.
In the 50-yard freestyle, Aileen Pannecoucke (24.54) and Kayla Stanley (24.93) finished first and second, respectively. NM State's
Makena Sutherland placed third with a time of 24.95.
Hauff finished in first-place for the Aggies in the one-meter diving event with a final score of 305.15, while teammate
Raina Brommer placed second with a score of 296.90. Coming in third was Idaho's Seljevold with a score of 291.25.
In the 100-yard freestyle event, Fisk (53.06), Pannecoucke (53.14) and Schlyter (53.97) finished first, second and third for the Vandals.
In the 200-yard backstroke, Magrino posted a time of 2:04.45 to finish in first-place, while NM State's Knagg (2:04.98) and
Gabrielle Sanchez (2:07.82) finished in second and third, respectively.
Lauren Votava clocked a time of 2:22.64 to finish first in the 200-yard breaststroke. Cara Jernigan recorded a second-place time of 2:23.03 and the Aggies'
Lauren Wood posted a time of 2:23.12 to finish in third.
In the 500-yard freestyle, Schlyter came in first-place with a time of 5:12.34, while Fisk placed second with a time of 5:13.88. NM State's
Grace Laporte came in third place after clocking a time of 5:15.92.
New Mexico State's Nentwich claimed the top spot in the 100-yard butterfly with a final time of 57.78. Emily Kliewer finished second with a time of 58.03, while Harston came in third after recording a time of 58.52.
Knagg finished in first-place for the Aggies when she posted a time of 2:10.29 in the 200-yard medley. Cassie Dallas finished in second with a time 2:11.58, while McAlpin posted a time of 2:12.04 for a third-place finish.
In the 400-yard freestyle, the NM State team of Laporte, Sutherland, Bender and Sina Wegal finished in second-place after clocking a time of 3:36.02. Idaho's Pannecoucke, Schlyter, Hall and Fisk posted a time of 3:35.26 to finish first.
