LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The Sun Belt Conference announced its football players of the week on Monday. After leading a record-setting defensive front against Idaho on Saturday, NM State defensive end Cedric Wilcots II earned player of the week honors.
Wilcots recorded a career-high six tackles with 3.5 sacks in the team's win over the Vandals. The sophomore's total led the Aggies to a program-high 11 sacks in the contest and set a new single-season record for sacks with 35.
With the help of Wilcots, the NM State defense held Idaho to the lowest opponent point total this season in the 17-10 victory. The Aggies also kept the Vandals to just 41 rushing yards which is the fewest yards allowed since ULM ran for 64 back on Dec. 5, 2015.
New Mexico State gets set for the regular-season finale with bowl eligibility on the line when the team hosts South Alabama on Saturday, Dec. 2, at 2:30 p.m. MT at Aggie Memorial Stadium.
