NEW ORLEANS - The New Mexico State women's cross country team was honored as part of the 2016 NCAA Division I Scholar Teams by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). This is the 10th straight year the Aggies have received this honor
"Our women have done a great job over the years consistently getting this award," interim head coach Joseph Rath said. "They have done a great job balancing the tons of miles they run along with all the classwork they do. They should be very proud of the high GPA they posted as a group."
Teams qualified for the honor by posting a 3.0 grade-point average or higher and competing at the regional level of the NCAA Championship.
NM State was one of four women's teams in the WAC to receive the recognition. The Aggies posted a 3.49 GPA during the cross country season.
Overall, 431 earned distinction from the USTFCCCA for their efforts both academically and athletically. Of the 431 teams, 242 were women's programs and 189 were men's.
