DENVER – Pun Chanachai was named Western Athletic Conference Women's Golfer of the Week on Wednesday. The freshman led the Aggies to a sixth place finish against a strong field, including nation's top-ranked Stanford, at the Peg Barnard Invitational.
Chanachai, a freshman from Bangkok, Thailand jumped up 18 spots on the leaderboard after the final day of competition to finish in a tie for 11th. After 36 holes at the invitational, Chanachai shot 76-71—147 (+5), including six birdies which were good for fourth in the tournament.
This was the third top-25 finish in four career events for Chanachai. The honor was also the second of the season as the freshman also earned WAC Golfer of the Month honors back in October after strong play at the NM State Aggie Invitational and Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown.
Chanachai and the Aggies will be back on the links, Feb. 26-27, at the Westbrook Spring Invitational in Peoria, Ariz.
