NAMPA, IDAHO - The New Mexico State track and field team competed in the WAC Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday.

"We were pleased with most of our team's performances today as many athletes put themselves into scoring position in the finals," interim-head coach Larry Carmichael said. "We look forward to watching the events unfold tomorrow."

Katara Nelson placed third in the 200 meter preliminaries. The senior clocked in at 24.98 behind two runners from Utah Valley. Tanisha Scott (25.26) and Lashira Tremble (25.40) also qualified for the event finals.

Tremble finished first in the preliminaries in the 60 meter dash. The freshmen clocked in at 7.59. Scott qualified for the event finals with a time of 7.76.

In the 400 meters preliminaries, Nelson finished with the second best time (56.70). Kim Rossen qualified for the 400 meters along with Nelson as she clocked in at 58.13.

Crissey Amberg had the top time in the preliminaries for the mile as she finished with a time of 5:03.83. Her sister Cassey Amberg finished with the fourth best time as she clocked in at 5:08.45.

Ashleyann Hall qualified for the 800 meter finals. She clocked in at 2:20.35 to place fourth in the preliminaries.

On the field, Akuadasou Ezenyilimba finished in second in the weight throw. The senior threw a best 18.49m (60-0.75).

The Aggies are back at the Ford Idaho Center on Saturday for the final day of the WAC Track and Field Championships. Field events begin at 9 a.m.
