Aggies Bested by Mean Green

The NM State women’s tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to North Texas on Friday.

DENTON, Texas – The New Mexico State women's tennis team dropped the first game of its three-match road swing on Friday to North Texas, 7-0.

The Aggies (3-3) had some trouble at the start of the match against North Texas (3-6), going down in order 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 1 and No. 2 slot, respectively. NM State's No. 3 doubles pair had their match cut short once the Mean Green clinched the doubles point.

Junior Rimpledeep Kaur was the first Aggie to go down, falling to No. 74-ranked Maria Kononova 6-1, 6-1. Fanni Novak had the same fate as Kaur in the sixth singles slot before North Texas captured the clinching point on court No. 2.

Marie-Pier Thiffault had the best day for NM State, forcing her opponent into a tiebreaker at No. 4 singles but ultimately fell 7-5, 3-6, 10-5.

NM State continues its road trip and turns its focus towards Stephen F. Austin. The Lumberjacks fell to UT Arlington Friday afternoon, 5-2. The Aggies and SFA are scheduled to battle it out on Saturday, Feb. 25, at 10 a.m. (MT).
