TUCSON, Ariz. – The New Mexico State men's golf team completed day one of the National Invitational Tournament in Tucson, Ariz. Through 36 holes of play, the team holds a combined score of 584 (+8) to sit in a tie for 11th place out of 16 teams.
NM State is led by
Isaac Merry who paces the team with scores of 71-69—140 (-4) which puts the junior in 13th. After two rounds, Merry leads the Aggies and is tied for third in the field firing 10 birdies and the Las Cruces native also shot the sole eagle for the team on Monday.
Just behind Merry is freshman
Jack Snyder who posted totals of 73-70—143 (-1), as he heads into round three tied for 22nd.
Luis Medina came in at 75-73—148 (+4) to tie for 49th.
Rounding out the squad is
Tadhg Campbell with a day one total of 153 (+9) to tie for 72nd and
Michael McGilton with a score of 156 (+12) who closed out the day tied for 82nd.
As a team, through 36 holes, NM State has one eagle, 31 birdies and 100 holes for par. The team currently sits just five shots out of the top-10 as they head into the final 18 holes on Tuesday.
Iowa State holds a slim lead in first with a score of 549 (-27), as Arizona State is right on their heels in second at 550 (-26) and UNLV completes the top-three with a total of 555 (-21).
Tuesday's final round of 18 will tee off at 8 a.m. MT.
