TUCSON, Ariz. – The New Mexico State men's golf team completed the National Invitational Tournament on the OMNI Tucson National Course in Tucson, Ariz. on Tuesday. After 54 holes of play, the Aggies finished with a score of 879 (+15), as they finished in 13th place in the 16-team tournament.
Las Cruces native Isaac Merry led the way for the team as his totals of 71-69-74—214 (-2) put him in a tie for 18th. The junior led the Aggies with 14 birdies and one eagle during the tournament.
Jack Snyder fired rounds of 73-70-76 for a grand total of 219 (+3) as the freshman tied for 43rd. Luis Medina and Tadhg Campbell tied for 55th as they each finished with a three-round total of 223 (+7). Rounding out the squad was Michael McGilton who fired a 233 (+17) and completed the invitational in a tie for 84th.
As a team, NM State played their best golf on the par 3 as they posted a stroke average of 3.24, good for 11th in the field. The Aggies finished the tournament with one eagle, 43 birdies and 153 holes for par.
At the completion of the National Invitational, Iowa State took home first place honors with a team score of 832 (-32), Arizona State and UNLV tied for second at 837 (-27), UTEP finished in fourth posting a score of 848 (-16) and Arizona rounded out the top-five at 858 (-6).
Next up for the NM State men's golf team is the Border Olympics, March 9-11, at the Laredo Country Club in Laredo, Texas.
