NM State Falls Short Against UNLV

Men's tennis suffers its first loss of the season.

LAS VEGAS – The New Mexico State men's tennis team was defeated by UNLV 4-0 on Friday.

The Aggies opened the dual by falling in the doubles point. Christofer Goncalves and Luis Flores lost 6-3 on the No.1 doubles court. Stijn de Haan and Mauri Benitez played a tight match against the Rebels, taking the set to a tiebreaker point. The duo ultimately fell to their opponents 7-6 (4) giving UNLV the early 1-0 lead.

Play did not pick up for NM State in the singles matches as the Rebels took down the Aggies one by one. Sergi Espias was the first to finish his match as he lost at the No. 3 court 6-2, 6-3. Goncalves fell second in the singles 6-3, 6-4. UNLV's No. 2 singles player Alexandr Cozbinov took down Flores 6-4, 6-3, giving New Mexico State its first loss of the dual season.

NM State (1-1) looks to rebound as the Aggies take on UC Riverside in their second match of the day.
