Goncalves Picks Up Third POW Honor

NM State men’s tennis junior Christofer Goncalves earned his third WAC POW honor.

DENVER – New Mexico State men's tennis player Christofer Goncalves was named the Western Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week on Tuesday.
 
This is the third player of the week honor for the Barquisimeto, Venezuela, native and the first one of the dual season. He was named the WAC Athlete of the Month twice in the fall (September and October).
 
After seeing his win-streak in both singles and doubles snapped against UNLV, Goncalves bounced back with three-straight win s in doubles action, including a doubles-point clinching 7-6 (3-0) win against Weber State's No. 1 doubles pair.
 
In singles action, the 6-3 junior bounced back with a 6-2, 6-1 win over UC Riverside's No. 1 singles player and then toppled the Wildcats' top singles player 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 to clinch the match for NM State. Goncalves was leading Youngstown State's Mitch Maroscher 7-6 (10-0), 3-1 before the match was halted when the Aggies secured the fourth point.
 
New Mexico State (4-1) continues its unreal swing that consists of 18-straight games on the road. The Aggies travel to Dallas for a pair of matches this weekend. First up will be Incarnate Word on Saturday, Feb. 11, before squaring off against UT Arlington on Sunday, Feb. 12. Both matches are slated to begin at 10 a.m. (MT). Times are subject to change due to weather.
