Baker Named to NABC All-District Team

NM State senior guard Ian Baker was named to the NABC All-District 6 Team on Wednesday.

KANSAS CITY – New Mexico State guard Ian Baker was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District 6 First-Team. Baker is the fourth Aggie to earn NABC All-District honors in as many years.

Baker, the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year, finished his final campaign leading the Aggies with a 16.7 points average, 4.2 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game. His 137 assists this season was a team-high for NM State while his 140 rebounds were third-best on the team.

The Washington, D.C., product cemented his name into Aggie lore early in the non-conference season when he recorded his 1,000th career point in the second half at UTEP.

The 6-0 guard opened conference play with his second-career double-double, scoring 12 points on five rebounds while dishing out a career-high 10 assists. Baker then willed the Aggies to road victory over Seattle U with 19 points and a career-high 11 rebounds for his third-career double-double.  He also dropped a career-high 36 points at UT Rio Grande Valley to help power NM State past the Vaqueros 107-101.

He was instrumental in New Mexico State's 20-game winning-stream, which ended up being the second-longest in program history behind the 1937-38 team's record of 21. That streak also ended up being the third-longest in the country this season behind Gonzaga (29) and Vermont (21).

At season's end, the 160 made free throws by Baker was fourth-most in a single-season at NM State while his .829 clip from the line was 10th-best in a single-season.

Baker was the lone WAC player named to the first-team while Jaylin Airington of CSU Bakersfield and LaVell Boyd of UMKC were named to the second-team.
