LAS CRUCES, N.M. -Â Â The New Mexico State track and field team travels to I-10 rival UTEP on Saturday for the UTEP Springtime meet.
"We had a good week of training and look forward to competing at the UTEP Springtime meet," interim co-head coach Larry Carmichael said. "Obviously, this meet provides an opportunity for local parents and track fans to see our team in action."
In her last meet, Kayli Farmer placed first in the high jump and second in the javelin. Her mark in the high jump (1.70 meters, 5-7) is a new personal best. She also had a personal best in the javelin (42.39 meters, 139-1), and her throw ranks first in the WAC. She was named WAC Field Athlete of the Week for her efforts.
Farmer wasn't the only Aggie with a first place finish at the Willie Williams Classic. Hannah Smith placed first among the collegiate competition participating in the women's triple jump as she jumped a best 11.72 meters (38-5.25).
In the long jump, LaShya Cole jumped 5.92 meters (19-5.00), a personal best, to take home the gold.
Crissey Amberg also took first in the 800 meters as she clocked in with a best time of 2:12.97. She also finished first in the 1500 meters as she clocked in at 4:35.11.
Cassey Amberg placed first in the 5000 meters as the junior clocked in at 18:08.50. Stephanie Quintero followed for second place in the event with a time of 18:30.97.
Elana Kresl finished first in the 2000 meter steeplechase as she clocked in at 7:20.77.
The UTEP Springtime begins on Kidd Field at 10 a.m. (MT) with the women's hammer throw. Running events are slated to begin at 2 p.m. with the women's 4x100 meter relay.
