DENVER – Redshirt sophomore
Eli Chuha grabbed the final Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week honor on Sunday the conference announced after posting a career-high 28 points and was just shy of recording his 14th double-double of the year with nine.
Â
This is the fifth player of the week honor for NM State and the first for Chuha this season. The five weekly honors for the Aggies are also the most by any team in the league this season, beating out Grand Canyon (4).
Â
Chuha single-handedly eclipsed his career-high of 20 points in just 16 minutes of action in the first half, going 7-of-10 from the floor and 7-for-8 at the line for 21 points. The Redlands, Calif., product also had five rebounds, three on the offensive glass.
Â
He would score the final seven points on the night from the charity stripe (7-for-10) before finishing to the tune of 28 points, nine rebounds (five offensive), two assists and a steal against UT Rio Grande Valley.
Â
With the win over UTRGV, NM State finished the regular-season 25-5 and 11-3 in conference play. The last time NM State finished the regular-season with 25 wins came during the 1989-90 season (25-2).
Â
New Mexico State enters the WAC Tournament as the No. 2 seed and will face the No. 7-seed Chicago State at 5:30 p.m. (MT) and 4:30 p.m. local team in Orleans Arena.
