ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. – The New Mexico State men's golf team wrapped up day one of the Cal Poly Shootout on Monday. In the play-six, score-five tournament the Aggies sit in a tie for second out of nine teams with a two-round total of 715 (-5).
Team play was led by
Luis Medina who sits alone in first place with scores of 65-68—133 (-11). Behind the senior is
Michael McGilton who posted totals of 74-69—143 (-1) to complete the first day of competition in a tie for 15th.
Davis Chung finished two rounds of play tied for 21st after putting up rounds of 77-68—145 (+1).
Ryo Harada comes in tied for 24th with scores of 76-71—147 (+3).
Isaac Merry and
Jack Snyder each finished with a total of 149 (+5) to tie for 29th which rounds out the Aggies squad.
Medina leads the field in birdies, posting 13 over his first 36 holes. Chung added 10 and McGilton posted seven to lead the Aggies on day one.
Heading into the final round of competition, UC Santa Barbara sits atop the leaderboard at 697 (-23), followed by NM State and UC Irvine tied for second with a score of 715 (-5), host Cal Poly is in fourth posting a day one total of 724 (+4) and North Dakota State completes the top five at 727 (+7).
