LAS CRUCES, N.M. – New Mexico State head women's tennis coach
Ivan Fernandez announced the additions of Yadira "Yad" Rubio and Quinty Janssen for the upcoming 2017-18 season on Tuesday. Rubio and Janssen join Helena Colvee, who signed with the Aggies during the fall signing period.
Â
"I am very excited to add Quinty and Yadira to our team with Helena that signed in November," Fernandez said. "Yadira comes from Mexico with two years of experience from Texas State. She will add some depth and maturity to our program. Quinty is a solid and powerful player from the Netherlands. These two players along with Helena will have an immediate impact in the lineup. I am extremely happy to have signed not just good athletes, but great people as well."

Hailing from Mexico City, Mexico, Rubio spent her first two seasons at Texas State where she's recorded 14 wins in singles play and 10 wins in doubles play after shortened sophomore campaign due to injury. As a freshman, the 5-6 right-hander was tasked with playing at the top doubles spot with teammate Ana Perez.
Â
Coming out of high school, Rubio was ranked No. 1 in her state for four-straight years while also being listed among the top-five U21 national players in 2014. She captured the state tournament in 2014 and 2015 after winning the sectional championships in 2014. In addition, Rubio was a finalist for the U21 National G1 Tournament for singles in her hometown of Mexico City as well as a finalist in the CPOA Showcase in 2014. She wound up as the runner-up in singles at the ITF Women's Tournament in San Luis while doing the same in doubles at the Monterrey National Doubles Championships.
Â
Joining Rubio in Las Cruces will be Janssen, who hails from Amsterdam, Netherlands. The 5-9 newcomer comes from an athletic pedigree. Her father, Miguel, represented Aruba in the 1996 Summer Olympics held in Atlanta where he competed in the 200m dash. Her father currently serves as the head strength and conditioning coach of the Dutch Tennis Federation. Additionally, her brother Ziggy was also ranked in the top-five amongst U16s in the Netherlands.
Â
Janssen comes to the NM State with a ton of experience at the national level, having played in Aruba, The Netherlands, Denmark and Croatia. She's also reached the finals in several Dutch women's open national tournaments. In 2013, she advanced to the round of 16 at the Amstelpark Zuiver Trophy Tournament. Rubio again advanced to the round of 16 in 2014 in Denmark when she defeated Michaela Lukacova at the Skovbakken TE Outdoor Tournament.
