LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State men's golf team travels to Mesa, Ariz. for the Western Athletic Conference Championship, April 28-30. Seven teams will vie for the conference title on Longbow Golf Course.
NM State is sending their normal starting five to the tournament with Ryo Harada, Michael McGilton, Luis Medina, Isaac Merry and Jack Snyder. Medina currently paces the team with a 73.12 stroke average. The senior tied for second, his best finish of the year, to close out the regular season at the Cal Poly Shootout which earned him WAC Golfer of the Week on April 19.
The 54-hole event will take place over three days; with the teams teeing off each day at 9 a.m. MT on the Longbow GC. This is a 7,050 yard course with a par-71 layout which features emerald fairways and strategic bunkering overlooking the desert. Live scoring for the WAC Championship can be followed on Golfstat.
Since joining the WAC in 2006, the Aggies have won eight of the 11 conference championships. The squad looks to ride their hot-streak into this year's tournament which has seen the team finish in the top-five in their final two events with Ryo Harada taking first place at the Jim West Intercollegiate, followed by Medina's second place finish at Cal Poly.
In a recent poll of WAC men's golf head coaches, the Aggies were picked to finish third out of the seven competitors. Seattle U was unanimously selected to finish in first, followed by UMKC in second.
