Aggies Continue Uptick in APR Scores

The NM State Athletic Department had seven of its teams earn perfect APR grades for the 2015-16 academic year.

INDIANAPOLIS – The latest Academic Progress Rate report for the 2015-16 academic year was recently released by NCAA on Wednesday, which saw seven New Mexico State teams register perfect scores of 1,000 in the single-year category.

Men's basketball, men's tennis, women's cross country, women's golf, women's tennis and volleyball all posted a perfect score of 1,000 for the 2015-16 campaign. The seven teams with perfect single-year APR scores surpassed the record of six teams set back in the 2013-14 academic year.

In addition, men's hoops tallied their first single-year 1,000 APR score since the inception of the program in 2003. Historically speaking, the 2015-16 multi-year score of 966 ties 2013-14 for the program's best multi-year score ever. Especially since men's basketball posted a 756 multi-year APR score in 2004-05 and didn't reach the 900 multi-year score plateau until the 2008-09.

The women's cross country team has posted the most single-year perfect schools at New Mexico State with eight. Meanwhile, women's golf and women's tennis are second with seven perfect scores. Those two programs recently earned the NCAA Public Recognition Award last week for posting a perfect multi-year APR score. Women's golf led the way with four multi-year perfect APR scores while women's tennis posted its third-straight in 2015-16. The only other team in school history to receive a perfect multi-year APR score is men's cross country (2005-06).

Men's golf is next on that list with six single-year perfect APR scores with men's tennis next on that list with five. Softball and volleyball follow with four each followed by men's cross country (3) and women's swimming and diving (2). Men's and women's basketball rounds out the list with one single-year perfect scores each.

Football has also made tremendous strides, posting its highest single-year score (972) and multi-year score (950) since the NCAA began tracking.
