DENVER – New Mexico State baseball first baseman
Tristen Carranza laid claim to his second Western Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week honor Monday morning after guiding the Aggies to a sweep of Chicago State on the road.
Â
This is the second-straight week NM State has had a player earn WAC Hitter of the Week and the fourth time overall this season.
Â
Carranza batted .500 from the plate (5-for-10) with a pair of doubles, RBI and three walks while scoring two. The El Centro, Calif., native also slugged a .700 clip with a .615 on-base percentage. He scored both times he reached base on Friday and then went 3-for-4 at the dish on Saturday. Carranza batted 1-for-3 with a walk in the series finale victory over Chicago State – which secured the No. 1 seed for NM State in the WAC Tournament.
Â
New Mexico State is set to close out the regular-season this week with a series against CSU Bakersfield (May 18-20) with senior day scheduled for Saturday at noon.
