LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State's Crissey Amberg and Kayli Farmer advanced for the NCAA 2017 Outdoor Track and Field Championships West Preliminary on Thursday. Amberg will compete in the 1,500m and Farmer will compete in the javelin throw.
"We are proud of Crissey Amberg and Kayli Farmer for their accomplishment of qualifying for the first round of the NCAA Division I NCAA Track and Field Championships," interim co-head coach Larry Carmichael said. "These two women have led our team through their performances for the entire season and are now reaping the rewards of their hard work."
Amberg ran a personal best 4:25.37 in the 1,500 meters this season and her time broke the previous school record. She is the first NM State athlete to qualify in the event. Farmer threw 47.94m (157-3), a new personal record, in the javelin at the Steve Scott Invitational which ranks second in the school record books.She is the third Aggie in the past five years to qualify in the javelin.
The NCAA 2017 Outdoor Track and Field Championships West Preliminary is being held in Austin, Texas, from May 25-27, at the University of Texas, Austin. The top 12 in each event at the regional will advance to finals at the NCAA Championships from June 7-10 in Eugene, Ore.
