Aggies Get Set for NCAA Preliminaries

LAS CRUCES, N.M.  - New Mexico State's Crissey Amberg and Kayli Farmer travel to Austin, Texas, for the NCAA 2017 Outdoor Track and Field Championships West Preliminaries. Amberg will compete in the 1,500m run and Farmer will compete in the javelin throw on Thursday, May 25.

"We are pleased to have two athletes qualify for the first round of the NCAA Track and Field Championships," interim co-head coach Larry Carmichael said. "Crissey Amberg and Kayli Farmer, both New Mexico high school products, have been outstanding throughout the season and have earned the opportunity to represent New Mexico State on a bigger stage."

Amberg ran 4:25.37, a new school record, in the 1,500 meters this season. She also placed second in the event at the 2017 Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships (4:31.49). Farmer's mark of 47.94m (157-3) is a new personal record in the javelin and ranks second in the school record books. She is the third Aggie in the past five years to qualify in the javelin for the NCAA Preliminaries.

NCAA 2017 Outdoor Track and Field Championships West Preliminaries take place from May 25-27, at the University of Texas, Austin. Both Amberg and Farmer start competition on Thursday with the 1,500m beginning at 4:30 p.m. (MT) and the javelin starting at 2 p.m.

The top 12 in each event at the regional will advance to the NCAA Championships from June 7-10 in Eugene, Ore.
