Farmer Earns Second-Team All-America Honors

Kayli Farmer finished ninth in the javelin throw at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

EUGENE, Ore. – Kayli Farmer broke her own school record to take ninth in the javelin throw at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field on Thursday. The performance earned the junior second-team All-America honors.

"We are very proud of Kayli for her All-American performance and for making the event finals in the javelin at the NCAA Championships," interim co-head coach Larry Carmichael said. "She competed against the very best in Division I and responded with a huge personal best."

On her third attempt, the Aztec, N.M., native threw 52.70m (172-11) for a new personal record. She sat in third place and fell to eighth after both flights had competed. The junior's mark qualified her for the event finals but she was unable to best her previous throw and finished the meet in ninth place.

"She had a great season and I could not be more proud," Carmichael said.

Virginia Tech's Irena Sediva captured the NCAA title in the javelin throw. She threw 58.76m (192-9) to win the title.
