Kayli Farmer and Crissey Amberg Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

New Mexico State’s Kayli Farmer and Crissey Amberg received all-academic accolades on Friday.

NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the All-Academic Individual honors for the 2016-17 NCAA Division I Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field seasons on Friday. NM State's Kayli Farmer and Crissey Amberg were recognized by the organization for their accomplishments during the seasons.

Farmer shattered the school record in the javelin throw on multiple occasions throughout outdoor season. The junior threw a new personal best at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships West Preliminary and qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships by finishing ninth at the meet. At the championships, the Aztec, N.M., native threw a program record 52.70m (172-11) to take ninth in the event. She also earned second-team All-America honors.

Amberg ran a personal best 4:25.37 in the 1,500 meters during the outdoor season and broke the previous school record. The junior qualified for the preliminaries, where she finished 38th overall.

To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, a student-athlete must record a cumulative grade point average of 3.25. Additionally, student-athletes must finish the indoor regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or rank in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org. A student-athlete can also qualify for the award if they have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds) during the outdoor season.

In total, 752 women received USTFCCCA All-Academic honors during the 2016-17 track & field seasons.
