NM State to Host Annual Crimson and White Match

NM State women's soccer kicks off its season with the Crimson and White scrimmage on Sunday at 7 p.m.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State women's soccer team will showcase its talents for the Las Cruces community in its annual Crimson and White match at 7 p.m. (MT) on Sunday, Aug. 13, at the Soccer Athletic Complex. Admission is free to all fans.

With the first match of the season only eight days away, fourth-year head coach Freddy Delgado wants his team to get a feel for what competition could potentially be for the 2017-18 season.

"This will be the first day of competition, for our freshmen of course," said Delgado. "The girls will be able to work out some of the nerves by putting on their uniform for the first time and play on their home field, so that's pretty exciting. The purpose of this is to really give these girls just a little taste of what competition will be like and what's ahead in the future."

Not only will this give the team the opportunity to have some playing time under regulation standards, but it'll help Delgado and the entire coaching staff determine how the players handle game-day scenarios.

"We're getting closer to our first game, so I want to see how they approach game time situations," Delgado said. "This is the closest we'll have to see how they perform before we open up with our season-opener versus UTEP."

NM State will have home field advantage in its season-opener on Aug. 18 at 5 p.m. against UTEP for the iconic Battle of I-10.
